Located just outside Helston, Lower Dacum Farm is a beautiful gay owned and managed campsite. Quite simply this place is out of this world. If you're into beautiful scenery and lots of peace and quiet, then this really is the place for you.
Campsite facilities are immaculately clean and here’s something we have never experienced before – loo roll, hand wash, a towel in the toilets, first aid kits, washing up liquid provided in the kitchen area and Aloe Vera plants for sunburnt ankles! Basically, Dee and Cath have thought of everything! Think of all the things that you have ever wished other campsites provided and we can guarantee that the girls have already got it covered.

Almost everything is recycled and there is just a real sense of environment here. There’s nothing fanatical about the ‘green’ rules, just a basic respect for the world. Seriously, when you see this place you’ll immediately understand why Cath and Dee are so keen to look after it and if you don’t, then shame on you. Do not go there if you are not prepared to do your bit to help!
Cath and Dee are fabulous hosts and we really looked forward to our evening chats with them. They were genuinely caring and it was lovely to be asked if we had had a nice day. There is a certain personal touch with Cath and Dee that we have just never experienced at other sites.

I could go on about ‘Out in The Open’ for hours but it would be unfair for us to reveal all of its delights. To understand it is to experience it and having stayed there, we are extremely grateful to the girls for letting us share their amazing home. We will definitely be back next year, and the year after, and the year after.

Ash Dean & Lin Prosser  - Wonderful stay in the Tipi   |29-08-2009
What more can we say but wow! I had no idea what to expect from a Tipi, just a tent i thought but i was proved wrong when Cath & Dee introduced us to their Tipi. Every thought possible had been put into the interior with lovely throws and all the equipment we would need and more. Not many Tipi owners allow fires but Cath & Dee did all possible to make sure our stay was special and ensuring we could enjoy the full Tipi experience. It seems nothing is too much trouble for Cath and Dee and we cant thank them enough for the efforts and help during our stay. The amenties are immaculate and your stay can be as private as you wish it to be. We'll definately go again. Ash (Manchester) & Lin (Middlesbrough)xx

John Redpath  - the best holiday ever   |14-08-2009
We stayed at Out In The Open for a week, it is the cleanest, most welcoming campsite that I have ever experienced. Cath and Dee are perfect hosts and this is a wonderful gay site, with very friendly campers.

Neil & Paul  - A great holiday   |29-06-2009
Good places to stay can be hard to find but ‘Out in the open’ is a real gem. Set in beautiful countryside down a windy track the campsite on a farm is a great peaceful, secluded space to stay. If you want get away and chill, this is the place to go.

When we turned up we had a very warm welcome from Cath & Dee who let us give our two dogs a good run before booking us in and showing us around the sites facilities.

The site itself is easily the most well kept and clean I have ever stayed in. free hot showers, washing up facilities and toilets were kept spotlessly clean all the time and were far better than we had expected.

We had planned on days out walking with the dogs every day but found with four fields to tire them out we rarely had to leave the site and spent most of our time relaxing.

It has been a great way to recharge our batteries and are planning to return when we have a free weekend as it was great being there.
Anne Littleboy and Sue Chapman  - another enjoyable visit   |22-06-2009
We have just returned from our 5th visit in 3 years to Lower Dacum Farm. We stayed 13th - 21st June and had a fantastic holiday. We love the campsite and the atmosphere that Dee and Cath have created. We value a safe place where we can be ourselves and enjoy the beautiful countryside. It is a friendly community where you can choose to join in or not as you please. cath and Dee show friendly concern but never intrude. When we arrived on our first visit (we had never camped before) Cath and Dee helped us to put up our tent and when we realised after the 1st night that we needed a larger tent Cath phoned outback Trading in Helston for us and got us a fantastic discount on a larger tent. You would never experience such attention at any other campsite. The stance on recycling and leading a greener lifestyle has inspired us to do the same. The campsite has a special air of tranquility and calm which you would not have if it was situated on a mainroad. Yes there are some rules but these help to ensure a happy and safe stay for all the campers. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend the campsite to anyone interested in a camping holiday and the only drawback is that out in the Open raises your expectations of what a camping holiday should be like.

We loved Out in The Open. First visit - won't be the last. Embrace the farm track as an adventure and all will be well! The attention to detail was fantastic with a 'barbie' or 'ken' to meet you round every corner. We are keen campers and a more looked after site we have never encountered. The nearby Star Inn is a 15 - 20 minute walk away and the food and wine were great and much enjoyed.
Thanks Cath & Dee - we loved it!

Hi.....We couldn't agree more with Sarah's review of the place. What a great space for gay people to BE gay people. We arrived on Sunday the 14th to a warm welcome both from Cath & Dee and the other campers on the site.So far we've had a fantastic break here (apart from the nasty weather today LOL).
Sorry to read that Caron had problems here, as we've not encountered any at all. YES, there are rules (NOT may we add, plastered everywhere, just in the shower/wash-up area) but they are there for a reason and it doesn't hurt to follow them.As for the barn....well...the first night we were here the girls organsed a BBQ in the barn (BBQ was outside) and all the crowd on the site met up there for the evening and we had a great time. So...all in all...we LOVE the site and will DEFFO be back next year. Cath & Dee are doing their best to give us a space to relax and they should get all the support they deserve. Anyone reading this...check out the website and go pay a visit.

caron ellis  - recent stay   |13-06-2009
recently stayed at the campsite june 8th 2009, we arrived in the pouring rain and having never camped before, one of the owners cath helped us pitch the tent in the rain which we were so grateful for. the site itself is down a 500 yard narrow dirt track no wider than 6ft!!! the facilities on offer :- ie hot showers, kitchen and barn to socialise in were good, the couple themselves are very eco and like to do their bit for the enviroment which is good, but we found all the rules of do and donts plastered EVERYWHERE a bit tiring after a while!!! there were even times to enter/leave the farm as it was so narrow!!! overall stay was ok, wont be going back in a hurry tho due to being treated like naughty kids when we prepared to cook in the barn and got told off!!! but thats just my opinion!! the local pubs offered expensive food and not much choice, we ended up drivin to falmouth for a wider choice of resturants.
